Hi. I am a new grower this year and have two pumpkins that are set well on two different plants. My questions are - I keep hearing how many days old grower's pumpkins are and was wondering how you measure that. What is considered the pumpkins first day - the day it was pollinated? My second question is for getting circumfrence measurement do you measure widest point of pumpkin. My main pumpkin on one plant is becoming long and fat and is much wider if i measure it around the stem and flower area than if i measure it around the middle of the pumpkin. Thanks. Steve

Hi Steve, day one is the day after it was pollinated. Think of it just like the first year of a childs life, usually measured in weeks or months, they turn one on the first anniversary of their birth.
For estimating try this link, you'll have to cut and paste it into your browsers address bar. There is a short article and a download. The download explains how to measure and also supplies the two estimation charts from 2005.
