It seems that my plant have too much nutrients. The leafes and vines growing fast and the pumpkins slow. My Zucchini fruits (out of the pumpkin patch and not special prepared soil) growing faster as my pumpkin in the patch. I prepared my patch (500 squarefeet) with 1000 kg compost and 500 kg rotten manure and 20 kg of organic fertilizer with mycorhizza. Feeding fish and seaweed. Maybe it was too much.
I think because this my plant give too much energie to leafes and vines and not to the pumpkins.
My plant is 24 feet long and the first sidevines 10-12 feet long. I cut the end of the first sidevines.
The 18 day old pumpkin has 25 inch circ. The other pollinated femals growing slow too.
My plant is a 551.5 Christensen 06
Should I cut the mainvine and all sidevines to stop vine growing to get more growing in my pumpkins?

I would cut the side vines that are 10-12 and not really let any new secondaries get long that are closer to the tip of your main. cutting the main is anyone's guess really

How many pumpkins are on the vine now? How far down the vine is the largest pumpkin? Vines while still growing are sinks and are using energy that could be stored to the pumpkin. every pumpkin is a sink and is robbing from the pumpkin you want to grow. Hows the weather been....I would pick the pumpkin with the best position on the main then cull off the others....at the widest you plant is 24 feet narrowing down to the tip at 24 ft. So you might have 300 sq ft pushing multiple sets.....get down to one set...You should see a marked improvement when the plant has only one sink to store to. Good Luck! GrowEmBig! Chuck

On 7/25 I had 4 pollinated pumpkins on the plant, two on the mainvine and two on the sidevines to make a choice for the best grower.
Now I have only one on a main vine and one at side vine.
I cut off the bigger one on main vine because the position was not good and hope for the second. The second pumpkin on main vine grows the last two days well, because the weather was over 86 degrees. Before the weather was much colder.
Also I cut the ends of some side vines over 10 feet.
I will cut the other pumpkin on the side vine next days although it have a nicer shape as the one one the main vine.
The main vine is 7 feet after my pumpkin on main vine. I thought to cut the main vine if it reached 10-12 feet after the pumpkin.
Thank you!
I hope to GrowEmBig!

Sounds good.Remeber the plant will backfeed the pumpkin. As the first leaves age they will die off. That means the leaves around the stump will slow down. growth after the pumpkin will be the more powerful energy source come late august/Sept....If you have the room try and keep this part of the plant for those months. The warmer weather and some sunshine will do you well. Call Owen...I'm sure he can help ya! GrowEmBig!
