As the fruit grows, the vines need to raise with the stem of the pumpkin after cutting the tap roots.
should i place bricks under the vines to support them or will the vine come up by itself?

doesn't hurt to help em...be gentle, be slow, i like two by fours, with styrofoam, use the strofoam to start the swing up....as I get the the space replace with a 2X4 move the styrofoam down to next tap root and keep going until the height that is needed is met...that's the life line now! Were not playing with the tips anymore...bad move now and the season is over.

One thing that works well for me is nylon stockings. Drive a stake in the ground high enough to tie the vine up with the nylon. I stretch them tight enough to give me at least a week of not adjusting it. This year I am trying those looped bungy cords with the ball on the end. they are easy to adjust and seem to be working out well for me. Any kind of support will work, as long as it doesn't harm the vine.

Try using 1 or 2 gallon plastic nursery containers laid on their side on both sides of your vine. I've foud the rounded side to be gentle on the vine.

Yes, anything to reduce stress on the main vine helps...I have used styrofoam blocks.......of different sizes.....Be resourceful....use something soft...I have even used nylons and a stick to help coax a vine slowly away......always do in the heat of the day....SLow but sure wins the race,,,Good Luck
