I was wondering if people who grow on sand -Somehow keep the sand dry ? my pumpkins have this shade structure 3x 5 & 3.5 tall & is covered with cloth but water from overhead watering goes threw the cloth & runs down pumpkin making the sand wet under the pumpkin ! I maybe somehow could put plastic under the cloth & water would be diverted away? I just wondered what other people do ?

I make a hoop house with 6 3/8" rebar, 3- pieces of 1/2" pvc pipe and 1- tarp. It keeps the sand dry, sun off the pumpkin, and keeps it a little warmer. The link below are pictures of last years pumpkins with the shade structures.

I don't mind if the sand gets wet, as i try to pack the sand into the sides to help support the weight, which is tough to do when it dries out anyway.

I worried about this last year, but for no reason. Soil will allow the water to pool which will cause rot, but sand will never hold water. It may be damp, but will never puddle. The dampness hasn't been an issue for me.
