pumpkins put on most of their weight during nighttime, correct?
is this because the plant is absorbing the energy during the day and feeding the fruit at night?

Its because you're asleep and its the only time you don't measure the pumpkin every 30 mins.

Yeah, it seems about 3/4 of your daily growth is after dark... resistance is futile, pick one petting pumpkin and measure that one, works :) [getting your daily feel of orange is a minor one they won't arrest you for... yet]

You got it right Jeremy. Same thing goes for long gourds. That is why most growers like warmer nights so they grow faster.
