I know this gets asked every year but what are the different thoughts on main vine termination or non termination past the fruit. Some of you think that it shocks the pumpkin when the main vine is cut off, others let it grow. Can some of you give reasons why?
Thanks, Kirk

the reasons you grow plant after the pumpkins are several
insurance if the main plant gets pulled insurance if the main plant gets old and wore out insurance to backfeed the fruit when the rest of the plant is old and less-productive from sept on out
if you must terminate at the pumpkin due to stem stress or short stem, etc, then let a few pieces of third atage growth grow off that last secondary set before the fruit. will act as well as anything if needed later on.

This year I terminated all main vines and am burying tertiaries off the first and last secondaries for prescisely the same reasons pap stated. It's just a different twist.
