My pumpkin has not been growing the last 3 days. This is day 14, OTT measurement is 83. Have I made a big error by dead ending all the secondaries. The longest is about 16 feet the shortest is about 4 feet, fruit is set at 18 feet on main vine. I dead ended and burried main vine about 7 feet past fruit. The other thing is, I think I have been over watering it the last couple weeks, approx. 100 to 125 gallons a day through an irrigation system, is that too much. I've stopped watering hoping that it might come back, I've also noticed some bugs, stink bugs laying eggs, I've spread garden dust and sevin to kill them, otherwise the plant looks good. I've also been covering fruit with a sheet during the day to help shade it, its been very hot and humid for the last 4 days. Any suggestions as to whats going on? THANK YOU

Do you mean it hasn't grown at all the last 3 days? If that is the case the fruit has probably aborted. If you've dead headed all your vines and there are no more females your probably out of luck. Unless there is a tertiary or two you haven't terminated it could grow out and produce a female.

i know to grow a big one, you need to only have 1 fruit on a plant..........but this is the exact reason why i usually like to leave 2 on 1 plant.
i would hate to have a fruit abort already and not have another to fall back on.
i would rather have 2 smaller fruit then 0 at halloween.
just my opinion......

Once the fruit gets bigger than a basketball, or about 50" CC, its fairly safe to assume that it won't abort.

Well I think it has aborted. It hasn't grown any in the last 3 days, it measures 33.25" in Circ. About the size of a basketball. I will try to start another one on a secondary but don't have much hope because where the fruit is on the secondary itd not in the greatest shape or place, I was lucky just to have a secondary that had a fruit on it, will poll. in about 5 days. guess I've learned my leason.
