My 1689 plant has pumpkin thats doing great but many leaves got burned, and the plant has been one of worst for handling heat iv grown, so i put up shade cloth on 2 sides of plant to protect new growth on secondaries 50% cloth 6 ft by 22 ft long ,and at about 3.5 -4 ft tall the secondaries grew without getting burned for most part but got taller than average, THIS IS MY QUESTION; should i now remove shade cloth now that leaves are big enough to stand heat, they are touching it now too ! ???

onced your leaves are 1/2 grown they can usually take the sun after that. So just keep the first 2' off vine covered. But all plants are a little different. so keep a close eye on it and in a few day's you'll know what your plant can take.

I use green shade cloth from Lee Valley Tools and it comes in 3x4 metre sections, I keep it over the growing tip areas of the plants and move it as the leaves get larger it works well and good for shading fruit as well.
