450 square feet is probably close to average per plant for most growers today. Yes you can grow a very big pumpkin on 450sq. ft. Last year I had a 694 pounder on 275 square feet. In that size patch I would only consider one plant though.

I'm trying it this year, I have 555 Janicek & 1161 Holland in 400 square feet. They are two flag patterns, with the main going to be cut off at 18 ft. growing good so far. (2nd year grower)

I grew a 884lber in 200sqft and a 534lber in 160sqft. But I would still try to make the patch as big as possible.

It depends on what your goals are. You can do it but most likely the fruits will be under 500lbs. But anything is possible.

Go for the two plants just in case one gives out. Think of pulling one if you do not have a good one on in July. If you get serious, look for more room. You will do fine.

Or talk neighbor or nearby friend into growing another vine, then you two can swap pollen. :)
