Does anyone from very mild climates (say 70-75 during the day and low 60's at night) have experience that they still can grow a 1000 plus AG without hitting the bench marks for 10, 20 and 30 days? I am hoping (probably wishful thinking) that if the weather is not very warm, as it is here, that they might be able to grow slower, but for a longer time. Of course that is without using a greenhouse for protection and heat.

thanks for any and all input.

I can't really answer exactly what you are asking Owen,,but I have grown a few over 1k that didn't make either the 10 or 20 day marks due to my cool night temps. I do watch the 30 day though and find them must be at or over to make 4 digits in the fall.

I do think that the PNW growers suffer the same fate with cool night temps but makeup the difference with good conditions in Sept and Oct

Thank you John for posting the information.

Many of you are becoming unduly concern with fruit that do not met the benchmark. I would like to caution all growers to not give up so quickly on a fruit that is slow to reach these goals. There may in fact be several reasons why such a condition might exist. Weather is but one factor. Plant size is another. Timing is something that we can't determine and they are what the are. There are several instances in the data were fruit that were largely obscure at a young have gone on to triumph. Here are some recent examples.

1556.5 Werner 07, Day 10 = 19" CC
1354 Checkon 04, Day 10 = 24
1332 Werner 05, Day 10 = 23.5"
1302 Zuhlke, Day 10 = 21"
1286 Werner 05, Day 10 = 19.25
1213 Starr 07, Day 10 = 22.5
1134 Landry 07, Day 10 = 22

In fact in most of these example the fruit growth did not accelerate until after day 20.

My 936 was only 76.5" c @ 30days,I think its unlikely you'll get to a thousand pounds with smaller than that.

my 1306 this year was 20" at day 10, 36" at day 15 and has jumped to 63" by day 20. that is an average of 3.2" cc from day 10 to day 15 and 5.4" per day the past 5 days. it was record low cool temps in joliet IL when very small for 2 or 3 days with 8 of the first 10 below average. now it is hot as hell and the pumpkin has taken off and will hopefully keep chuggin 5 plus for a while. it was a disappointment at first and now has me re-thinking its potential. you never know what these things will do. and opposite effect i had a pumpkin at 33" inch at day 10 and 81" at day 20 and only made it to 697 pounds. fast maturing kin. i would always go with the largest 10 to 15 day gain if choosing 2 on both plants with stem length and positioning being equal. that is just me.

i meant 2 on the same plant and not the gain from 10 to 15 days but the measurements of either kin on day 10 or day 15. i should re read prior to posting.
