Can the light yellow pumpkins get a sunburn?

Yes they can. Young pumpkins are usually proctected by the leaves but if they are exposed to the sun for long periods they can sunburn. We protect them from the sun by putting laundry baskets over them covered by a towel or pillow case. The baskets also protect them from birds that sometimes peck them. The dollar store is a great resource for the baskets. Sherry
