my patch is roughly 16' x 23', small i know. i was hoping to grow 2 flag pattern plants starting in opposite corners and running the mains along the 23' length of the patch.
Well i did this and was hoping to leave a 3' wide walkway diagonal across the patch in the middle so i could walk between the plants.
Well the mains are about 4' from the ends of the patch and the first 5-6 secondary vines of each plant are getting closer to the other plants vines everyday.
i have 1 pumpkin pollinated on each plant on the main, but would like to get more pollinated.
should i terminate all the secondary vines so i i dont have to worry about stepping over them if i fill the patch in, or should i just let them keep growing in between the secondary vines on the opposite plant.
like i said, most secondary vines are getting to the 8-10' length, is that long enough or not?
thanks

10' is long enough especially considering your patch size. Personally I would have planted 2 as well but when I saw one plant being more agresive grower I would have terminated the other plant to allow the other one all that space as truth be told you really only have room for one. Now though I would see which one has the more agresive fruit then I would get rid of the other plant to allow the better one the room it needs. If you do do this then cut the roots off the plant your taking up instead of ripping them out.

Good idea MR. T. Jeremy, if by chance you do decide to leave both plants I definitely would not let them grow into each other. Having plant mass that thick is only inviting disease because of lack of air flow and hindering you from being able to effectively apply fungicides and insecticides.
