Is this possible? Did we definitely get the pollination date wrong? We measured parallel/horizontal to the ground, starting at the stem around the bottom (flower end) of the pumpkin back around to the stem. The pumpkin looks well proportioned/circular.
Will this thing blow up if it is right?

the blossom is still stuck on....so we measured just under the blossom and just over the stem....the blossom is not part of the measurement....the tape is flush/touching the plant all the way around.
I think we screwed up though because this is about 13 feet out on the first secondary off the stump...not even on our main vine, or off a secondary far out....doesn't seem possible from what I have read so far....but my partner marked the stake when he pollinated it....I never saw this pumpkin until a couple days ago and I was at the patch last on July 2nd (we had a baby on july 4th).....so the oldest it could be is 12 days if he totally screwed up the pollination date.
On another plant we had an 8 day grow from 34" to 37.5 in one night....I know this one to be right I measured it both days...is this normal growth? Are we going to blow them up? They look pretty "tight". What are the warning signs?

Not claiming that we haven't messed up somewhere.....but regardless I will get some pics on here and post the daily growth measurments. The 37.5 plant was pollinated after the 4th...that is when he was out bagging and pollinating...calling me with the numbers and progress etc.
He marked each pumpkin with the date and the male flower it was pollinated with...before the 4th I had only been able to pollinate about 3...2 of which I culled myself because of thier placement etc.
I sure we could of messed up one date...but not all. So I am hoping we are off to a good start...but again worried about the warning signs of blowing them up...should we cut back on watering?

I believe your measurments; I'm sure you didnt mess up!! anything I have ever had over 40 that early was a squash. they were always out of the gate like rockets but stopped growing at 700 lbs or so (hence i gave up on squash LOL). who knows if it will keep it up or fizzle. only time will tell.

If you are questioning the validity of the pollination date, it probably is not right. Especially if it is only growing 4 inches a day right now. I would think a fruit that size at that age would have to be growing 8-10 inches a day

According to the Ailts Landry benchmark studies, 40 inches is the biggest 10 day pollination mark recorded, that by Russ on his 1073.

I know for a fact that there is a pumpkin out there this year (I believe on a 998) that was well over 40 inches on day 9. I won't mention a name, but I assure you it is not me.

Brad, Over 40" on day 9...that would be quite exciting....especially knowing how well the 998 did last year. Good luck to whomever has it.
