As most of you know, I live in PA. I got a problem though. I need to know the best (latest) weigh-off in PA. The best one I can find considering where I live (I live about 6 miles away from Lehighton) is the Bloomsburg Fair, but even that is cutting me close at late September. Any of you PA growers got any ideas?

The only three I know of are Bloomsburg, Altoona and Longwoods. They occur in that order. I'm guessing Altoona will probably be the largest. Since this is the first year for Longwoods we'll have to wait and see how many show up for it. I plan on going to Altoona and Longwoods.

Your pumpkin may decide for you. It may stop growing by the time Bloomsburg rolls around, or it may keep growing until Longwood weigh-off the in mid-October. If you can go to any of them I'd wait and see what the pumpkin is doing in late September and decide then based on what your pumpkin is doin.

Here is the problem with Bloomsburg Fair. You have to take it there the day before the fair, you also have to bring 7 or 8 friends (if it is decent size) to unload it, no forklift or help offered from the Fair people whatsoever.

The prize money is 30 bucks for first, that is it.

You have to leave the pumpkin in a heated display hall for 8 days during the fair.

After the fair is over, you have to come down and get your pumpkin, again, bringing 7 or 8 friends to help you get yoru fruit.

And... there is no pomp and circumstance of a weigh off. It gets weighed, displayed, and that is it.

My experience with Bloomsburg, so you decide what you want to do...

I personally think the PGPGA weigh off is not only the best (by far) in the state, but one of the best in the GPC.

Sam,
I would have to say Altoona is the best weigh-off in PA. they have weighed in 2 WR there and always have a very big top ten average. There are alot of great people that go to Altoona and I am sure that you would have a good time.
