If the fruit doesnt shrivel up and die a few days after trying to hand pollinate, does that mean it took?

any advice is greatly appreciated....

It may have taken but I have had punkins die at 10 and up to 14 days.

i tried to pollinate a fruit on one of my plants, today is day 2.

it is still standing up in the air so it is hard to measure around, i measured it yesterday day 1 perpendicular to the stem and blossom and it was 4.75" around, today is is 5.5" so it grew 0.75" in a day.

doesnt sound good, does it, or is it took early to tell if it took?

it is still yellow and shiny.

0.75" in a day at day 2 is fine. You need to cross the 20" or more by day 10 to be certain it is growing, and you are more than 1/4 there. So far, sounds good.

In the end though, it is too early to tell.

so if I am at day 3 after pollination and the one I pollinated was 4.5" on that day and is now 8", would it be safe to say I am in good shape so far?

Just give them some time. Continue to pollinate more females on your main vine and choose the best one. My plants choose which ones they want to grow and I will have all my friuts perpendicular to the vine by day 10. Start measuring around day ten and just eyeball them.

My first year of growing, my pumpkin was very slow out of the gate...16.5" circ. on day 20. It was pollinated on July 20 and ended at 615 lbs. Although 20+" at day 20 is desireable, some are slower growers.
