is there any point of pollinating a female on the first secondary vine coming out of the crown at about 10' out?
if i was to keep a backup fruit on a secondary vine, how far out should this vine be from the crown up the main?

Jeremy, I am growing a flag pattern this year and have one set on the main at 12' and am going to pollinate a back-up on the end of a secondary that is about 10' out from the crown.
I do not and will not pollinate on the first couple of secondaries as like many others, I believe that you need other plant growth before the fruit.
