It looks like I need to learn about misting setups. If you're using a misting setup that works well could you please post the details, like what hardware you have, how you have it laid out and when and for how long do you turn them on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

i am no expert to say the least since this is my first year growing. BUT i went to walmart and purchased a mister kit that was over by the fans. It has 15 misters on the thin line that you attach to your hose. It is made for people around a pool area or soemthing but in my opinion it is the same thing. the kit was 28.00 bucks and has been working GREAT. temps yesterday mid day were 96 here in florida but the garden area was 83.i had them on 1 til 3.
i have the garden in the corner of our fenced yard. i ran the misters on the top rail of the fenc running along both sides of the garden

Here is my set up ... Shade cloth and misters togther. I've been using it since 2004. I posted several pictures of the set up this year in my diary. here are the key ones... http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=87678 http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=87679 The mail line for the misters runs across the top of the structure. Some misters are directly in the main line. They are every 4 ft. Then there are more that are attached to tubing that comes off the main line and attach to the structure at the outside pipes. They are every 10 ft. I only run the misters on really hot days... when the temp in 100° or higher. The misters are hooked up to my sprinkler timer... which only has 3 start times. but I can manually run them also. Idealy you'd want to have a cycle timer. It would cycle on for 1 minute then shut off for 10-15 minutes- then repeat all afternoon.
The shade keeps the whole patch 10°F cooler that it would be with out the shade cloth. It also protects the patch from hail, wind and some birds. I use 66% blocking shade cloth. It is very hot and dry here plus I'm at 4200 ft elevation. I think 66% is a little to much even for my situation. If I had to do it again I think I'd try 40-50%. So for you I'd recommend 20-30%. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=87683 http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=87686 There are more pictures my 08 diary. If I had to do it over again I'd probably use steel fencing post (like the ones used for chain link fences) and try to set up the shade in such a way that I could open and close it easily.
I got the all the mister stuff from dripworks. the mister heads are the red (I think tornado) plastic ones. hope this helps ... gordon

I have a set going from 11 am to 5 pm as this plant seems to flag quite easily, the misters are from drip works too, the finest mist is what i have dont remember maybe .5 gal per hour i have them in a line along the main vine i think it is the NMW
a bit of advise if you buy from dripworks, order a few different sized ones because the shipping is a little steep.
Superfine Misting Nozzles are excellent misters for summer cooling! The mist put out by these nozzles is almost like smoke, so fine that the spray hardly reaches the ground. Use around a deck or pool, around the house, in a barn for cooling animals or at parties and fairs. The nozzle comes with 1/8" MPT that threads into a specially adapted 1/2" PVC tee (MNTA), or a 1/4" barbed adater (MNBA). The barbed adapter can be used at the end of 1/4" tubing or directly inserted into mainline poly tubing, if necessary. NOTE: The included filter screeens will only work with the PVC adapters.
