Damn, what an idiot. Hopefully only an aesthetic thing. I have been been told by good sources I should be fine from a fruit growth point of view, but still, jeeze.

Cut off that side vine in the picture and start moving that pumpkin over before it gets too big. Pick it up and move it a couple inches a day until it is perpendicular to the vine. Your dent should be fine, I have had birds do worse damage.

You should be fine with the dent, I'd treat it with some dry Captan powder and keep the area dry until it heals. Probably the only thing will be a big scar but if you are looking for weight who cares about looks! Good Luck!

Jordon, no problem, if you was going to have a dent, you picked a good spot, there is alot of meat at that spot in your pumpkin.

I did almost as bad last year ... fingernail scratch while measuring. Left a scar but did no other damage.

Vine is already gone, so we are good to go. Full steam ahead.

Like others have said- the dents should be fine... as long as you keep them clean and dry... and use the Captan.
Here is a similar one I had a two years ago - a magpie pecked just a couple days after pollination. it made it fine to the end. your will be bigger. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=53974 http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=55649 http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=56941
