I have two fruit on my 1041.5 McKie. One, a 4 lober at 14' a little bigger than basketball size. Another, a five lober at 18 or 19' about 25 inches at 11 days. I was favoring the one further out. It has better vine position, but I noticed a hairline, lengthwise split in the stem about an inch and a half long. It might be due to moving the fruit for better positioning. Which one should I favor?

guys you have to look at the whole pic in this case the one that is further out is bigger in better vine position it is a no brain-er keep the more aggressive fruit at 18 to 19 feet you can keep the rest of the vine well pruned pushing all energy to the fruit go for it cut the smaller one off !!!

slow and steady on moving the fruit spray the split with bleach and water mix 5 to 1 is what i use and keep on top of stem stress you will be OK

The one further out is the smaller one, although it's about 5 days younger. Don't the one's further out usually lag behind the older fruit closer to the stump?

What is your first gut feeling on this, and go with it, It's usually right, lol If it were me I'd take the chance and go with the farthest one out and do as calcubit said.

I had a question between 4 and 5 lobers. Doesn't the 5 lober generally grow better?

CM, Can you tell us the day and circumference of the fruit at 14'? How did it's day 10 circ. compare to the one at 18'/19'?

The one at 14' was 22" at 10 days. The one at 18'/19' about 20". I forgot to mention that I also have one at 12' that I'm removing. I imagine the two closer ones are slowing down the growth of the 18'/19' fruit.

Hmmm. Does one have a noticeably better shape? I would also consider how fast the one at 14' is growing. Can you tell us what day it's at now, and it's circumference? Maybe you'll need to wait a little longer to see which one is doing better.

I haven't taken any measurements since ten days, but the one at 14' is at day 16 and is, I'm just guessing, about 50 inches in circumference. The one at 18'/19' is about soccer ball size at 13 days. The 14' is pretty much oblong shape. I like the shape of the 18'/19' more. It's less oblong shape and has bigger shoulders. But, like you said, Doug, I'll probably wait a few more days before I choose. I just don't want the 14' to get too big and limit the growth of the other, or on the other hand have the one further out abort after I whack the 14' and have nothing. Ultimately, though, I guess I just need to take my chances.

Good luck. Sounds like a tough call.
