I'm curious to see the pole results on this one. When taking 10,20 and 30 day measurements do you measure over the blossom or not? It seems that large blossoms could really skew things. This might seem as a silly question however with the day and age of extreme record keeping it might make a difference.

No blossom. You are correct, it would skew the results. Since it doesn't weight anything, don't include it.

Never blossum "nub". Maybe this is why my 10 day results aren't even close to charts. LOL

Side to side over fattest part. From top of stem to top of nubbet... then around the pumpkin parallel to ground above stem and nubbet. NOT over nubbet. When they're 10 days old they still have fragile skin, if you touch them with a fingernail you can cause them to weep and scar! Be super careful. By late teens the skin starts to color and the fruit shows ribs, then it's a little easier! My six day old tonight is touchable, in a few more days it won't be, and then it will eventually toughen up enough to not make me sweat like a bomb defuser getting near it with the tape.

Good news for you Okie Gal. You made a mistake that made your OTT smaller than it really is. It's not top of stem to top of nubbet, both side to side and end to end are to be measured from the ground.

never measure around the blossom however wrapping the tape around your fist is permitted early on.
ps-----my feeling is to much is made regarding 10-20 day measurements.
your eyes tell you early on which is best to keep and which is growing better.
we start recording on august first.
a good goal on the east coast is 5 to 600 pounds by august 1st

Geeze, thanks JRO. I was avoiding the nubbet at least.

I agree with Pap, the eyes can help in those first several days, you can see what's getting big fast...

In that case I might be done with the bet in about four days...

I wasn't taking it at rude, the geeze was for me...

I just fixed it by taking a morning measure and for some reason my pumpkin gained quite a bit of weight. :)

I have 2-3 days left now to hit the magic mark and have broken my PB (okay, 1990 on a Big Max) already.

I meant year 1990 not weight. <blush> the weight was 70#

I have dreams of 1000 plus this season and might make it barring the usual misfortunes.
