I have a secondarie vine growing almost at the base of the stump and was wondering if it would hurt the plant to cut it of as there is not enuff room for it to grow the way it is going. or should i just cut it at the fence, any info would be great as its my wifes plant Thanks Duane

to grow a good pumpkin takes the ability to prune and train your plant. just use a sharp knife and don't leave a nub as this may rot latter and infect your main vine. Be sure the area dries well also

Hey Wayne, just cut it off at the end when it gets to where it can't go know further. don't cut off the whole vine. It's important to keep the vine buried to take advantage of the roots at all the nodes helping to take up nutrients.
