I have two pumpkins set - one on the main at 17' and another on the back main at 11'. The back main is growing slightly quicker than the one on the main. Keep both for now and cull in a few weeks or terminate the back main pumpkin now?

That is the problem with a double christmas tree pattern. I can't decide which to cull. I usually go with the main vine fruit. Last year I had a plant that the back main fruit was just always ahead of the main vine fruit. I couldn't cull either one. It turned out okay 1016 on the back main and 876 on the main.
Is the back main fruit older? How many days since pollination? Which has the best vine position. Is your plant large enough to support two fruit. All things to consider.
Personally I would wait and see for a while. But the longer you wait the harder it is to make the cut.

The plant has some heavy hail damage and the center (old growth) is already dying off. I don't think it can support two. The back main pumpkin is 9 days and main is 7 days. 1016 / 876 were excellent and the plant must have been huge. It's always tough culling a steady grower.

no questions asked here ,,unless your doing two pumpkins for crosses ,,cut the back one!!!! period,,then the front one ,on the main ,,will out grow, the one, on the back ,,because then ,it has the whole plant to push it,,just think if ,,Brian would have, had one, instead of two ,,he might have been the new world record?and according to those weights ,,he would have,,,cull now and don`t worry about the back one ,,put your focus ,,on one ,,and go with it.good luck
