roughly how long does it take from when the pumpkin is first noticed (size of a pea) to when it is ready to open up and be pollinated?
1 week?

Im my experience it really varies. First noticed is a bit subject tive as well. I have one that i spoted...way deep inside the vine tip that hs taken a couple weeks to be ready. On another palnt i noticed one that was about the size of a pea and the weather got really hot a for a few day and it looks to be close after only one week. Lots of other factors play in as well. Rain, fertilizers, nighttime temps, etc.. 7 days in the heat of summer is a pretty good guess, but for me it is usually closer to 10 from the first sighting...Unless i have been doing the dreaded tip fondling and spoted it inside way the tip. Pap says too much playing with the tip can make you go blind.

Usually about a week or more, I would agree on average. you can tell when the flower becomes about an inch in length that it will open soon. Yes, it depends on lots of factors. I had a tip eaten by an animal (ouch!) and lost a little under two weeks due to having to grow a secondary out. Polenated this morning.

It varies slightly, but 10 days is fairly normal.
