ok my question is this. will my pumpkin growing time be shorter here than somewhere where it is cooler for most of the season. because here where i live it is common for days of 105-110 degree weather for extended periods of time. will this very hot weather shorten my season at all? and does anyone know the date that pete glasier pollinated his 1500 pounder?

You'd better have a great misting system to keep your plant alive and kicking in those kind of temperatures. If you can keep your plant happy, it should grow for somewhere between 70 to 90 days, just like it would anywhere else. The key is to keep your plant healthy and growing, so your fruit can continue to grow.

Vineman, I am in Sacramento kind of near you but not so costal and I worry about rhe same thing. This season has been one of learning in the area of seed getmination. I started direct and the damn squirrels ate all my seeds. I then started them in peat pots but didn't have grow lights so I put them outside. Those early 104 degrees days we had sorched the seeds. By then my new batch arrived from Howard(God rest his soul) and I am set. Thanks for the input. And thank god it does get to 115 in Sacramento!

I pollinated my 1535.5 on July 3. I suggest you contact Ken Mitchell, who lives in Elk Grove, about growing in the heat. I agree with Vineman, keep your plant happy. Pete Glasier
