I'm sure this has been asked, but I can't find it. What is the largest pumpkin grown on a side vine? I guess I'm including side vines that have been trained to be mains. Is there a recommended way to determind which side vine has the best growth potential? (ie- the thickest one? the last side vine before the main termination?, etc.).

Here is an earlier link that I found on the topic. I know that Jake van Kooten grew a 958 lb on a secondary and his 1142 on the main.

The largest pumpkin listed on the AGGC grown on a secondary vine is the 1257.5 Hester 07.

Thanks for the info. John. It's the largest recorded progeny off the 898 Knauss I believe....and orange to boot!

Thanks to all. I don't feel so bad about growing a side vine pumpkin now. At least now I know they can grow big. My best plant will have only side vine pumpkins. I'd settle for 1257.5....
