I was just wondering if there are any growers from Kansas on here or around the North East Kansas area? Every once in a while I see a post from a Kansas grower but no diary or anything, I know we can grow em big around here, just looking to see if there is any one else out there, I don't know of anyone around my parts that have any passion for growing big ones.

I grew up in Manhattan. Now I live in Northern California. I express my Kansas farming heritage by growing big pumpkins in California.

I see, to make it short and sweet, anyone around here you talk to about giant pumpkins gives the same response...
1: Why do you want a giant pumpkin? follwed by..... Seems like a waste of time and money.
Thats what I ment by "passion"

I can sum up my passion for you. A friend sent me a list of bumper stickers, slogans or catch phrases pumpkin growers might use. One that stuck out in my mind was "Honk if you want to swap seeds". You understand the meaning of something so dorky & you will know true passion for a sport that gets ahold of you like nothing else. I get it!!! And I bet Doug, Roger, Aaron, Russ & all the silent ones reading this do as well.

silentb: You've got to love the practicality of a true Kansan. Just tell them that you want to grow big pumpkins because it is part of a government funded price support program which give farmers incentive to plant less wheat. They should be able to relate to that kind of logic.
