I dont know about you guys in Ohio but that storm that just went through tore me up,''literally'' I'm gonna have a tough time trying to savage a pumpkin out of this mess. Looks like Hurricane Pumpkin Hater went through my patch,,lol.
The ups and downs of growing pumpkins, huh?

Yikes Brooks! Not nice. We have a severe thunderstorm warning up for tonight with potential hail til 1:00 am. I hope we don't get it. We did get some hail, but nothing severe, and it didn't last long.

I just got in from setting all my secondaries back up on 4 of my plants, lost a few leaves here and there and that's minor, but what I think is going to hurt me is that most of the secondaries I stood back up had broken roots at most nodes, and I had some fantastic root growth at each node from using the endo plus. I wonder if these broken roots will regrow at the nodes? I'm not sure they will? Only good thing that came out of it was that most of my top root growth on each node had just started growing and most was not hurt. We will see what happens I guess, these plants are really resilient and come back quick.

We are not through with the storms yet. I was just looking at weather.com and we have more headed our way. The stream behind our house is already 15 feet above flood stage. Batten down the hatches!!!!

We really need the rain here in KY, but we could do without the wind. Im thankful I took advise from someone here and used bamboo to hold down my vines. Hail got me last week, havent checked yet today, but will have some bamboo stakes just in case I missed a spot. Sorry to hear about your plants Brooks, dont give up, Tom didnt. Good luck. Croley Bend

Brooks,
It went through here too, with sustained winds of 55 mph for about 15 minutes. Amazingly enough, no damage from this one.
We have been battling adversity from the start. First, the cold, wet May we had stunted several plants and set us back about two weeks.
We were gone for about a week in early June only to return to split mains on five plants due to a high wind and herbicide damage from the adjacent soybean field. I had no idea he was going to spray while we were gone. Wind has killed us this year.
Got two plants with hebicide damage straightened out, but others will be pollinated on secondaries just to salvage some genetic crosses. The mains were terminated and I'm working out an alternate vine trimming plan.
It seems we have to spray Permethrin every other day just to ensure that the insects won't get us next what with receiving an inch of rain every day.
It's been a challenging year to say the least, but I am learning things about dealing with adversity and salvaging what I can. Pollinating in the rain has been a real challenge as well.
I feel your pain Brooks(literally)!

Go to www.noaa.gov and read the recent research on Global Warming. Article is titled "Extreme Weather to Become More Common." Its worth the effort.

brooks, sorry for the direct hit. sounds like you got the patch back in some what of order. i have found that those rolled over vines will re-root. you might bury them with extra dirt for support cuz they will want to roll again until then. i have used 5' long garden stakes or 5' long bamboo and stick them in the ground on both sides of the bigger leaves unjder the leaf canopy supporting 4 or five leaves each on both sides with each stake. this can help keep them upright along with the extra dirt on the vines. i also give them a foliar shot of seaweed after a storm. i have had multiple roll overs on secondaries this year due to a crazy windy spring here in illinois. all but one secondary looks normal at this stage. the one that didn't react positively to the fix had the leaves rolled under neath but grew out of it and looks better now. best of luck, shazzy
