This year I'm going to use a sheet to protect my pumpkin from the sun. Already purchased my fine $2.50 sheet from Wal Mart. Nothing but the best for my pumpkin! I've read through a number of posts from Pap and others mentioning they use the sheet but haven't seen anything yet explaining how they attach the sheet so it doesn't blow away. Any suggestions?

I just put the sheet right over the pumpkin last year, if it got wet I took it off and dried it out and then put it back. Some people make a little structure for them. Kirk

we do not pin down the sheet. it lays ontop of the pumpkin and will get wet if it rains or blow off on windy days you can always tie some heavy string to the corners and tie strings to some small stakes if you feel safer about it. im home a lot so we dont worry about the sheets blowing off

i've got little teepees with bamboo sticks. I use clothes pins to attach the sheets..but it's a constant worry because they are still getting too orange and it's very windy and HOT down here all the time. My pumpkin patch is out of control and I can't figure out how to cover the whole thing.
I think I'm the luckiest girl in the world to find this place! I can ask the stupid questions, hehehe. Think color of the sheet makes a difference? I've got yellow sheets and maybe they are still getting too much sun? And yes, people at work think I am crazy. :)

Someone once posted that they take the bell-type fishing wieghts and tie them into each corner of the sheets, and that works to hold them in place. I am going to try that method this year.

I weight each corner of the sheet down with a rock. Sometimes they still blow off, but it helps.

in texas id suggest the old method of shade protection a 8ft x 10 ft blue tarp attached to four re-rod stakes driven into the ground. make one side of cover closer to the ground to allow for water run off. much to hot in texas. gotta give um credit for trying
