What is the best secondary length before cutting the tip for the first and second secondary?

Last year I let my first few secondaries get 10-12' in length. My later secondaries I eventually turned in the direction of the mainvine, and they may have got to 20', or so, in length...though I didn't measure them. This is a great way to get more plant before the fruit. The termination of all secondaries before the fruit would be later, using this method, than if you terminated them all at 10-12' of course. I was pleased with the results last year, and plan to do it somewhat similar this year.

I can't remember the logic in terminating the first few secondaries at 10'-14' but I know most growers do cut the tips of the secondaries. Around what ideal date would all secondaries be terminated?

By cutting the secondaries you channel the plants energy to the fruit. I have tried different lengths but 10' seems to be the length that works for me. As soon as they reach 10' they are cut and buried. remember you want to grow fruit not salad.
