Hi all...
First year grower here. I am attempting to grow a seed form the pumpkin that was dropped during the Nekoosa pumpkin festival. I have no idea what type of pumpkin this was except that it was huge. My plant appears to be doing well. I am just wondering if anyone knows what kind of pumpkin this is. Also has anyone ever been successful planting a Nekoosa dropped pumpkin seed before?
Thanks
Jenny

The pumpkin dropped was my 1105.5 pumpkin, the seeds were removed b4 the fruit was dropped,,,,IF you got seeds and they were wet with flesh/attached then the cross was 1407 Wolf X 1139 Sherwood (I might have missed a few) BUT the powers that be from the Fest thought it a good idea to "salt the earth" with seeds from an unknown fruit so the kids would have something to pickup. I opposed the idea at the time but they dumped in dryed seeds and went with the original plan. There are a few others that now have those seeds growing, my suggestion is to grow them out and gain some skills this year,,,they might be an excellent cross and do very well. But in all reality the cross is "unknown" and needs to be acknowledged as that. :-)

email me if you have any questions and I will try and help

That totally sucks of them to do that. My boys were so excited that they were going to be able to grow a monster pumpkin. They should disclose that in someway so that people don't invest their time and money (and dreams) in a "mutt" seed. Are they even varieties that grow large like AG? The plant is pretty big, but I will be really upset and disappointed if they are little pumpkin pie pumpkins. Congrats on the giant pumpkin...I am assuming that the one they dropped was yours. It was a beautiful pumpkin. So much for my big pumpkin growing career...maybe we will try next year...we will see. Then again, some of the greatest dogs are mutts...maybe our seed will be the same.

No problem...kinda feel dumb to be honest. But, we are going to fight for our mighty mutt and see what becomes of her...maybe she is a winner. She was a huge seedling compared to the pack of big pumpkin seeds we got at Walmart. Her main vine is 2 feet long, so I think she is going to do well, even if we don't get the giant one. We are calling her Mighty Mutt. I am going to start a diary and keep everyone up to date to see how our Mutt is doing.

Jenny the seeds did come from an Alantic Giant, not sure what the cross was at all but it can grow you a big fruit. Like I said consider this a learning year,,work on your skills as growers and make note of what does well for you. Next year you'll have the experience and the patch can be in good order.

Shoot me an email if you want and here's the link to the club's website for more ideas and contact info.

Good luck and bring your Mighty Mutt fruit to a weigh off this fall,,,I'll be there make sure you look me up.

Thanks so much! I actually just went out and measured the main vine and it is 2 feet 9 inches. Just curious if that is a good length for this time of year. I will definitely be utilizing your experience throughout the growing season.

2 feet 9 is kinda behind for this time off the year but there is no dout u can still get a huge pumpkin, even im behind and its becuase off all the rain wisconsin has been haveing, a good plants main should be about 16 feet long by late june but like i said all the rain we've been having set us all back. anyways good luck

ya like green says 16 feet out is a good plant for this time off the year and u can still get a 600#+ pumpkin easy with a good dill seed witch u could have but i dont know so even if it's a bad dill seed u can get a big pumpkin 200#+.
