i have about 500 ft of growing area. i have always planted just one plant but have heard people are having sucess with much smaller plants. this year ive planted two about three ft apart. will theyt rob each other of nutrients? will their roots get bound up? i guess what im asking is wheth i should remove one of the plants? thanks

Most growers do about 400 to 700 sq.ft per plant. If you are putting 2 plants in 500 sq.ft. they each should have 250 sq.ft. of their own, not crowded together.
Over the years, I have seen the trend on plant size go from 1,000 sq.ft per plant down to about 400. More recently the trend has been to go larger again.
If you want to grow a decent size pumpkin I would recommend 1 plant in 500 sq.ft.

Depends on what you consider big (whats your goal?) Last year I got 694lbs on 250 square feet.

If the plant is early enough and all the vines are well pruned and buried on time I think you should be able to grow a good sized pumpkin. I have heard of people putting there extra plants at the back of there patch and just letting them run along the fence and they have gotten ones to grow to 400-500. It would take alot of time to work on a small patch to get big growth though.

to me yes, these things need lots, so if they have to share I would make sure to keep supplementing with fish, kelp,Neptune's
