I took a chance this year while my plants was growing and used Round up pretty darn close to my plants for the first time ever, It used to be when ever my plants was in the patch the Round Up never came out. But I gotta say it has saved me a lot of time in the weeding department this year especially when your growing 10 plants in about 8000 sq ft of area. I gotta admit I was a nervous wreck using it just feet from my plants, but while doing so all I kept saying to myself in my mind was '' Don Young uses Round up all the time like this, and it didn't bother his plants, and he even grew the second largest pumpkin in the world'',lol!!!
It works well using it just a feet away from your plants but ya gotta be careful, I only use it when the sun is out and the wind isn't blowing. And It has save me tons of time.
I'm still not brave enough to use it as close to the plants as Don uses his though, he uses his just inches, and centimeters from his plants Ha!. Heck, Don sprays so close to his plants that if he accidentally sprays Round Up on a pumpkin leaf he ether cuts the part of the leaf off that he gets it on , or wipes the leaf off real good, lol!!!!. I just cant get that close to a plant yet, lol!!
If your planning on using Round Up Id be extra careful, practice around a back up plant or something, and start where you feel comfortable and work your way in towards your plant each time each time you use it, but be careful, there could be over spray that could drift right onto your plant with out you knowing it, and you could wake up the next day and find your plant dead as a door knob.
Thanks for the idea Don, it has saved me a bunch of time this year with all the other things that has been going on.

you can buy a cone from northern tool that goes on your sprayer and you put it down over the weed and spray. presto!!! no overspray on your plant. Anyone could probably make one of these with a little backyard engineering! even if you drill a hole in the bottom of a five gallon pail just big enough for your sprayer nozzle to fit in. sit it over the weeds, put the sprayer tip in the hole set on a nice wide fanning spray! Blamo!! No overspray, dead weed!

Brooks I found out that my plants eat up the weeds as there is little light getting through to them under the canappy of leaves. This means that I have the odd weed now and again to pullwhich saves me using the dreaded weed killer around the plant area.

Cutting the pressure way back helps for spraying close in. A gallon of round up will go a long way like this.

I've mixed red dye with the roundup, if you see red on any of the leaves, remove them immediately. Also be careful of those tiny pumpkin roots that grow close to the surface of the soil, if any of those are exposed and you hit them with roundup you'll be sorry!

Round up crys, that sucks all you need to do is use a 4x8 sheet of cheap under lay and put it right up close to plant and spray all the weeds as you go along and most men have a partner that will steady the 4x8 foryou. This works 100% for me. Edmund
