I came home today to find that my main vine to my 1502 Wallace broke in half. Sorry Pap! I cried a little, but my two year old seemed to take the news in stoic fashion. (She is such a show-off; little brat.)

Fortunatley, it broke only the top of the vine, leaving the bottom untouched. Essentially, a giant hole was formed. I fashioned a splint around it, filled the hole with disinfectant powder, added extra support and promised to go to church if it makes it through.

Instead of growing out stright, the vine turned upwards and back over itself in roller-coster like loop. I have never seen a plant do this before. Now the main in pointing in the wrong direction and upside-down. I will get it straightened out over time, but what makes a vine do this? Anybody ever seen such a thing?

Same thing happened to one of my plants this week. Unfortunately, the entire main broke off. It grew straight up, doubled back and started growing towards the stump.

sad news indeed. my 1446 tried that roller coaster early on. i found it to be a twisting effect that caused it on my plant. its like a garden house if you start rotating with your hands will form a loop. i put a little s curve and brought it out opposite the way it wanted to curl. then let it grow for 2 days and then train it back a little at a time and it took care of it. the older the plant, the stronger the vine, and the harder to train the vines at times i have found. plus a lot of energy with more leaves and more tap roots. on a similar note, when you are putting an s curve for your female, if you start it early, this twisting effect can start up again and also the female will roll into a straight up position on the center of the vine and later on this will become a factor with shoulder clarence after it lays down. you need all the stem you can get and better to have it coming of the side of the vine then the center. try not forcing the s curve too early. let the vine grow out a bit and then put the s in with some slack, carefully of coarse. i have snapped vines putting in s curves and that sucks the worst.
