Get em! I have know idea how. I am having war with some ground squirrils. I got one right after he took my vine on my biggest plant. See the next three photos. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=86130 Before this even happened I was setting out poision. They even broke into the place I kept the poision to eat some more. I don't think it hurt them, but at $39. a bag, I am not buying anymore. I have been setting havahart traps and rat traps. They eat the bait but do not get caught (except the one I caught in the rat trap). I think there is hundreds maybe even thousands. I am double fenced too. I just came from the patch. All the traps need to be re-baited and set.

Camoflauge and a .22 work well. Just need to have the patience to sit and wait 'em out. Live in suburbia? The old red rider BB gun works well too! I don't want to sound cruel, but these pests are exactly that. Pests! We all put way too much time and $$$$ into this hobby to allow them to shut us down!! I have been fortunate to not have these problems. I do have a bunch of rabbits around here though. They already got my whole pot of leaf lettuce that is up by the house about 250 yards from the patch. I have seen them near the patch, but they are munching on the clover, brassica, alfalfa and such that I have planted to keep the der out of the patch. So far I have not seen one deer in there, but I scae off the same rabbit every morning when I go to see the children!

That caliber will work too! Actually better! You would not have to pick up the carcass and get it out of the patch. It would be vaporized. BRILLIANT!!

The most efficient way to eliminate groundhogs is at their hole. Trust me it is somewhere very near your patch. Once you've found their den place 10 inch conibear traps into the openings. I usually use two traps per den area. Make sure the traps are well anchored as they are tough animals and they may not die instantly. This is a guaranteed remedy so check your traps every day.

There's one that is after my mom's plants, but so far I have had no prblems. This is where I believe a preemptive strike must be launched! This is why I love having a vivid imagination. Let's see... I have a .22, 9mm luger, homemade napalm, molotov cocktail, and hydrochloric acid grenade. Decisions decisions decisions.

Conibear traps are illegal if set above water in the state of Virginia. hate to catch the neighbors dog in it and then have to explain that one away..OUCH!!!! May be legal in other states though.

This may seem a bit radical, but it works. This idea will be especially exciting to those of you who were a bit destructive as a child.
Locate the groundhog hole and open the valve of a propane tank with the converter and hose attached, directing the gas into the hole(propane will sink). Allow the gas to permeate the hole for a few minutes and toss a lit rag toward the hole(stand away from the hole!). When it's over, you have an asphyxiated groundhog.

Best thing to do is get rid of it or make someone else's garden more appealing. Suckers can eat a whole patch down in hours.

joe Joe Joe, Grab it, light it & run. Heard the thump felt the ground shake. Looked over at the neighbors just in time to see his white porcelin god crash through his roof. Last we saw of it was the underside heading towards Mars. Sewer Gas ignites who would have ever thunk it? And Like a good Neighbor State Farm is there!!

I forget who's diary I was reading, but they have a picture of there vehicle with a hose attached to the tailpipe and stuck in a hole in the ground. Now that is clever, but with the cost of gasoline now, not economical.

If anyone's curious about that homemade napalm i was talkig about, jusrip up a bunch of styrofoam cups and put it in a gasoline tank and let it sit for a while. Eventually the styrofoam will melt into the gasoline ad make some nice gelled up goo. Perfect for Vietnam reenactments! The hydrochloric acid grenade is also a simple groundhog solution too. Make a bunch of little ballsof aluminum foil and put it in a plastic bottle and dump in some toilet bowl cleaner ("The Works" or any oth one containing hydrogen chloride). Then screw on the cap, chuck it, and then RUN RUN RUN! After a few seconds it will detonate and boiling hot plastic shrapnel and hydrochloric acid will pepper the blast radius.

Probably would throw the acid grenade when the woodchuck is no where near your patch! Unless you want to end your season in about thirty seconds!
