I have a 1556.5 '07 Werner (1308 McKie x985 Werner) and 1408.5 '07 Daletas (1068 Wallace x 805 pukos)plant running right next to each other. They are both good looking plants, about 4 feet long. The Werner threw a couple of baby 'kins right at the base and attempted to ribbon vine but has corrected itself. One of these has to go. Which would you pick? THanks in advance! michelle

I would get rid of the 1556.5 if it is the one that displayed some poor traits early, why take the chance on it further down the line.

I agree with unkadan. Also, the 1408.5 was such a solid, nice-looking pumpkin and weighed something like 12% heavy. Sometimes you see a weigh off winner and say to yourself, "Man, it was a miracle that one made it to weigh off with all those sag lines." Not so with the 1408.5. That baby could have put on quite a bit more weight without splitting, I think. (no, Steve doesn't pay me to say all this! It's just that the 1408.5 was on my short list this year and I saw it in the flesh)

could leave the 1556 as an pollen plant then take it out

Thankyou SO much!! I did not see the 1408.5 and surely appreciate a report from someone who did. It is the logical choice especially given the quirky stuff with the Werner.
Appreciatively, Michelle

I'm growing a 1556.5 as well and I agree, it's been a quirky grower. Mine also ribboned early and threw off females at the base. I did get it straightened out though, and it's growing well now, but remains my runt. It's too late for me to exchange it for any back up plant, but I seriously considered it a few weeks ago. I would go with the 1408.5 if it's looking like a better plant. I'm sticking with my 1556.5, but I don't like it's chances (so far....).
