How many of us plant say 6 seeds just to make sure we get 1 or 2 good plants. Then all 6 seeds come up and they are all good looking plants. It can be anything Pupkins,Tomatoes ,melons etc. I decided to start a another type of tomatoe. I just wanted 1. Well all 4 seeds came up. I couldn,t throw out the 3 I really didn,t need. Well they are all planted somewhere. I think I must be crazy. I have done that with alot of plants. Who else does this?

probaly every body,,in the pumpkin world does this ,,I for one, start extras for everything I grow ,,,,it`s a good way to get your pumpkins and watermelon seeds planted ,,,theres always somebody who needs, a plant or two due to ,,bad germination or something in the sort,,,just a day ago ,,a fellow gave me 24 tomatoe plants ,,and we planted them along the fence ,,and the funny thing was I gave him an 845 bobier ,,so see what goes around comes around ,,thanks Larry

greg, same here with starting extras. i use some for backups and the rest are given away to newbies. i will always find someone to take em off my hands. the backup plant whacking is the hardest especially when both look good. but i would rather take my chances with 2 plants to one spot and whack the worst genetic one or the least healthy or vigorous one. it ain't easy to do, but it's all about playing the odds.
