Subject: Split main vine at base of plant

Guys i got a split main vine at the base of the plant going into the ground. the main vine just hit the ground and is running. what should i do. the split is about 5" long lenghthwise. Its my best looking plant,anything i can do or just let it go or do i plant a backup i got started. thanks

If you want that seed then I think you can go for it. Just keep it dry. The link below is also a stem split:

No need to get rid of the plant. A lengthwise split is not critical most of the time. You should be fine. This question has been answered multiple times in the past few days if you read on down the list on this forum.

I have one plant that split about a month ago and one the vine healed the plant is growing like a weed. The plant has already hit the end of my 12 foot green house. I would leave it to grow. Some big pumpkins have been grown on some very ugly plants. Just look at the Wallace 1068s.
