This is my 2nd year at an attempt to grow a large pumpkin. Unfortunately today I noticed that the main vine, where it comes out of the ground, is split. The plant is about 6 feet long and the main vine has about a 2" long split where it immediately comes out of the ground. The split is rather deep to. Does anyone have any suggestions, as to what I should do? Thanks

Treat it with a Captan paste and then take a couple of bread ties and twist around the split portion. Keep it dry and it will heal itself in a couple weeks. A lengthwise split is not a big deal. Your plant should be fine. It's those cross ways splits that will get ya.

Last year I had a split that I treated with sulphur paste as I could not find captan here, I also put a piece of drywall mesh around it and then the past and it worked great. Hope things work out as having a split this early really bums you out - Good Luck
