How often do you check your patch? I am always walking out to my patch to see if anything has changed since I last checked. It is not even noon here and I been out to the patch 5 times. Every evening my husband and I sit in our lawn chairs and just watch them grow.

I'm taking my new stress free life way too seriously and checking on the patch 2x per week.. Everythings on Auto-Pilot, It's all good. Weather's been great, Pumpkins are self burying their vines, self pruning tertiaries and all the Cuke beetles are finally trained to battle the rabbits out of the patch and stick to the cucumbers.. Soil is amended to perfection and I'm positive that this is the year to break 1K!!

Be lucky you have some one who is in on the hobby WITH you!! My wife thinks i am an idiot and i only have a small garden. I check at least twice a day. So does my bro.....His wife thinks he has a screw loose too.

The last couple years 4 to 5 times a day. Made myself a promise I would not stress out nearly as much over them this year. So far I go out once a day usually late evening and do the work that needs to be done. On the couple occasions we have had thunderstorms I have gone out and checked them afterwards. I agree with SafeHouse....stress free is the way to go!!!! lol

I work out of state, so it is tough to check on my plants everyday. I would if I was there. When I am in town, I perform a check at least three times a day. These checks usually coincide with some activity, pruning, feeding, or weeding. Now, I can tell you, when I get home, I don't care how dark it is, I turn on the flood lights and grab the flashlight cause I need to see my pumpkins. Everyone that knows me just think I am crazy. I don't really care what they think because guess that will have the final laugh when I am toting my first big one to the weigh offs in October. You got it, me!

It was hot today so I've been over there (a mile away) three times: to open hot houses, to water, and to water again. It is 5:00 PM and now I'm going over to bury vines for about an hour and a half and close up the hot houses!

I try to stay out of the patch between 6:00am - 4:30pm Mon.-Fri. I don't work near home. TIP: Wearing a head lamp keeps your one hand free. My other hand generally has a cold one in it. Also get a lamp that has the RED light. SVBs eyes light up orange-yellow, like a deer in the headlight, then WACK!!! Just make sure you don't mix-up which hand has the Beer and which has the Sevin dust in it. Hard to get that dust out of your mustache.

Once or more a day... to the right is the pumpkin patch, to the left is the tomato patch, and tomatoes need a couple times a day. I believe in watering so they get plenty of that, and the hotter it is the more likely I sprinkle early to mid afternoon for heat relief. Now really doing work (like picking up the hoe) is another matter. If you don't like headlamps I found these one LED microlights that really put out, and you can hold those in your teeth if needed... or use them to get an angle on what you need to check out... and they give just ENOUGH light if you're underwear deep in the pond catching frogs to see them sitting there going screamscreamscream or to fix wonky wiring when it's going to freeze at two am. As it is I'm overdue to finish a MaxFactor spoiling and maintenance on my plants... anyone ever figure out why they INSIST on laying secondaries down on top the main!?! I want to install a patchcam honestly... my other half thinks I'm past insane but he will come out to admire punkinbabies...
