There are several baby pumpkins right at the base of the secondaries near the stump...I've never seen this before. Is this a problem child plant? The plant's main hasn't even hit the ground yet.
Thanks!

I had the same on my Werner plant. I cut both of them off and have a third forming at 3-4 feet out. I'm guessing it's the plant reacting to stress- trying to put out females to ensure it's reproduction. My Werner has been a misbehaving plant from the start, but I'll keep after it...

Thanks pap, I'll try to snap a photo and put it in my diary before I remove them. There is a definate yellow ball under the blossom...weird. Cndadoc, it's funny you should mention it, this is a 1556.5 Werner '07. It's a darn good looking-plant too!!

Just keep a eye out for any other signs , If that was all there was to it, It should be alright, Look for any double leaves coming out , Do you have back ups ! Your welcome to transplant a back up plant of mine , I have some that were started late & may be transplantable !!! Either way good luck !!

Same here- Werner 1556.6. Ribboned and threw off females early. I wonder who else is growing it?

Yup, mine tried to ribbon too but is currently behaving itself. I think I read in the "which is your best grower" thread that Christy in Ohio is growing one too. Am I correct?

Oh, BTW Glenn, thanks for the offer of a replacement but this plant is competing with a Daletas plant for the space so there's already a back-up if I want to go that way. I think I'm more curious than anything to see what this crazy plant is going to do next. Maybe a pumpkin-producing fool?
