I'm putting in a 1000 gallon round tank with the small opening on top and want to fill it at night, and I want the water to shut of when it's done filling. In the past I have had open tanks and I used the floats with the arms that you use in a toilet, but I don't have the room for the arm and I don't want to cut the top of the tank. Any Ideas ?

Quinn There are water meter timers that hook up to the hose bibs.

cheapest way might be to fill it up once during the day, and time it to see how long it takes. put one of the cheap electric timers on the pump for that amount of time.

depending on how small the opening is, a stock tank float shut off might fit. i think the one i use is less than 6 inches long and 3 inches wide.i got ti at a tractor supply store for about $7.00

Quinn, I have used photo eyes linked to a shut off valve at work for years.

quinn, go to Tractor supply Co. down in your area and get a tank float shut off that farmers use when watering cattle outside. They cost $ 8.99. I got one in my 1,500 gallon tank. It is only about eight inches long and three inches wide. Works perfect for me.
