I told my uncle who lives nextdoor with a backhoe to bring me some manure for my 400 square foot patch. So he goes ahead and dumps 4 heaping loads (Front bucket) of manure on my patch. I thought this was great at first, but it turns out that it was so much that the tiller can't even reach the dirt. How much should I take away?

Provided it is well cured, I'd just grow right in the manure. The roots will work down to the soil just fine. I'd give my left arm for 4 yards per 400 sq. feet!

To much manure isnt good, Jerry Rose tried growing in straight manure for a couple years, and he said he ended up losing alot of plants to desease, and pumpkins blowing out.

id get good old uncle helper friend to come back over and take half off. to much of a good thing isnt good at all. if you dont want to remove it then have him use the backhoe to turn it under a bit pap

Bummer Sam, We live close to a dairy and get 25 yards of 2+ year delivered for 50 bucks. Good deal but that equals about 6" spread out over a 60 x 70 patch.... WAY to much! Seems that about 2" to 3" worked in about 6" is perfect.

I know Pap speaks experience, and he is right on have your uncle turn it in with the backhoe then till it in the backhoe will get down 16 to 20 " then you can deal with the top 6"
