Dont pull the plants out, cut them at the base.

Jeremy, I leave two plants in each hill until they both start to vine and lay over. At that point I pick which plant I like the best and CUT the other one off at ground level below the seed leaves. Leaving the plants in this long might not be ideal in others opinions but I like to be able to pick one that lays over nice without any kink in the main vine. I dont think it has hurt my plants growth at all. Hope this helps.

i understand pulling a plant out may disrupt the other plants roots, but cutting it, wouldnt the roots of the cut plant be still taking in nutrients from the plant that you want to keep?

not for long, if at all; once the leaves and such
are gone, the plant probably just ceases all functions,
i would think.

Actually I have noticed that the soil around a recently cut off plant becomes wet for a few days. This tells me that for a few days the plant is sucking up moisture and bleeding it right back out the top. I dont think any nutrients are wasted.
