I have read several posts about the yellow mottling that can occur in AG leaves. The answers seem mixed....cold soil which causes a nitrogen shortage? - or simply a nitrogen shortage if the soil is warm - a micro-nutrient shortage - such as manganese or magnesium?
It would be great if some of you experienced sorts could please take a look at my diary and give me your input. This seems like it would be an easy diagnosis for you botany majors and plant specialists.

Vancover, I always seem to have atleast one leaf on a plant look similar to that in the beginning of the season, Im pretty sure mine is from cold soil,,,but,,, I also had leaves look similar to that when I had spider mites under the leaves. (TREMOR showed me this trick) Take a dark piece of paper and then shake the leaf over it and see if you have any white specks on the paper. If you do then you have spider mites.

I have the same thing on one of mine this year. Exceptionally cold May in Michigan this year. Plants are quite a ways behind average growth. I'm going with cold soil preventing nutrient uptake as the probable cause. The problem will go away as the soil heats up.

and/or this: just the plant showing its true colors. you'll note that the VINES of an AG plant are a mixture of yellow and green. as long as the MaJoRiTy of the leaves don't show yellow you are okay, in my opinion----the only time it got outta hand for me there was definitely a LOT of the yellowing and a simple, single sprinkling of a gallon or two of Miracle Grow 15-30-15 (@1 TBSP./gal.) took care of it and it did not come back on that plant, probably in like 2002. leaf here, leaf there, i wouldn't worry. in fact, i just handed a plant over to my coworker moments ago with the same darned affliction and we are so not worried at this point---eric

It could also be a slight iron defficiency. A little ironite would do the trick.

I'm not so sure that it is just one single factor. My Iron readings are over 50 ppm and I can still get an occasional yellow spot on a leaf. My soil tempperature is usually over 70 degrees...and I would not say that it is due to "cold soil". Since "stress" in humans can cause a multitude of symptomes....my theory is that it can do the same in your AG plant.
