i have my plants in the ground inside of plastic containers and they each have a 40-watt bulb in there about 8" away that i turn on around 9-10 pm if it is gonna be cold out like less than 45F. OFF BY SUNUP if possible! if it is like 42 outside it is like 49-50 or so inside the containers. they are like 58 to 76-quart, clear plastic, each with a 16" X 48" X 5/8 or so walking board on top and a big rock on top to protect the plants from just about everything. almost got long-winded there, pheeewww!!! ha ha eric g

I use a 120 watt ceramic heat bulb used for reptile cages it is a bit expensive about 60 dollars but works great.

I'll bet the 120 watt heats great. I guess what part of my question is, it ok to leave a grow light on all night or does the plant need some time to rest?

grow light on okay at night if that is what gets you through the cold spells. i have done this for years and for example last year i had pollinations as soon as July 1st, and i don't think last spring was anything special weather-wise. there may be differing opinions on this but i use the light bulbs because nothing could be cheaper than that! i just pray that one doesn't go out--then I'D have to go out in the patch in my 'jammies and i don't wanna do that, lol---good luck--eric g
