I have a large green house where I start 2 of my plants in the early spring. Currently it is heated with kerosene, but at greater than 4.00 per gallon, that is going to be out of the question in the future. I am wondering if the milk room heaters are expensive to run? If they are, is there another more energy efficient type of small electric heater. thanks Kathy

Kathy, I use 250 watt infra red heat lamps in my hoops and would rather use kerosene price wise. Our electric bill is usually around 100-120 dollars higher than normal after May. And we only have them on at night. John

If there is a way to use a wood burning stove that would work the best. I use one and it helps keep the moisture levels down in the green house as well. Some areas have wood burning bylaws though if you are close to main towns.

If you can make smaller bubles within the larger green house to cover the plants at night, then you can use croc-pots to heat with. They are $8.00 at wal-marts, and will heat a 4x6x3 buble with no problems when tempatures stay above 20 degrees or more. And they cost literally pennies a night to run, maybe a quater to run all day. Plus they create at humid atmosphere to boot.
