Hey guys, second year in a row I have had this problem. After transplanting maggots get into the stem and kill the plant. Lost 5 plants already about 15 last year. Soaked area with Merit and later sevin. Any ideas. Maggots are very small and white.

Jeff I had a couple die already from them, Wet and cold weather along with compost /manure is there feeding ground. I sprayed my plants like you did , before and after transplanting and it doesnt matter ether way, they still get into the stem some how. I did notice on my last plant though, I did drench it with merit while it was still in the pot and then put it into the ground, about 5 days later the stem was full of maggots, But they was all ready all dead. Im thinking the merit killed them but it was to late to soon. Heck if I know what to do to prevent these boogers, I know they start out as a egg (s) from a fly , I think there is hundreds/Thousands of these eggs laying around arleady in your soil in the area your going to transplant in. One thing I have found is that the plants I have heated with a light on them at night I havnt had this problem(knock on wood)
