What is the deal with plants having flat vines. I have an 1157 Companion growing really well but the main vine is flat.... any info?

This is a mutation that shows up a fare bit in these giants. The thoughts are that this is genetic, but that it is some enviromental factor that triggers it to express itself.
Sometimes the vine will straiten itself out, but usually it dosn't. If you have a back up plant, you may want to yank the ribbon vined one and replace with a new one. If you don't or if the plant is especially valuable to you, leave it to see if it straitens out. Alternatly, you can terminate the main and train a strong secondary as a new main

I had a flat vine last year. I was told by Jim Kuhn that if you drench the plant with 50+ gallons of water, it will straighten it out (of course he told me this after I tried something else). I ended up cutting off the main and training a secondary into a new main vine.
Good luck.

This is just great. I'm growing the 1157 Companion too. It better not have flat vine.
