Subject: leafs rotting at ground level ?

Hi, have clay soil mixed with horse manure. Keep vines covered with this soil. Have had several leafs rot off at ground level. Am I watering to much? Clay becomes compacted after it's wet. Have switched to covering vines with just aged manure.

if manure is fresh and not aged composted you likely have deseises killing your leaves. best bet in this circumstance would be to uncover all vines and get yourself some damping off and soak vines were any type of rot is present

It does sound like the soil is too heavy & wet which favors soil borne diseases. There might be time for an Aliette drench.
