Last year I had a crappy desktop webcam which couldn't focus at the distance it was from the patch. It was affected by moisture, very choppy, etc. This year I was given a CCTV security camera from a friend who works for a company thats does that kind of thing. It is waterproof, high res, colour and also has infrared LEDs for night vision.
Have a look if you want, it should be running all the time. It requires a browser with flash.

Apparently the plants are too far away for the infrared LEDs to work. Oh well, still a daylight cam.

You can get infrared flood lights. Find a alarm company, and offer to put a small ad sign in your patch,in return for a IR flood light. The new LED IR lights are not that expensive.

I will look into that. Thanks MCPUMPKIN. The software I use allows the camera to act as a motion detector, so I think it would be cool to capture pics of potential nighttime intruders, etc.
